On September 28, 2022, H.E. the Lieutenant of the Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap and the Sovereign Council of the Order of Malta conferred upon the late Mr. Jape Kong Su the Grand Cross “Pro Merito Melitensi” of the Sovereign Order of Malta in recognition of his many years of support.

With the Jape family, he was instrumental in the successful launch of the Order of Malta Clinic in Dili and remained – as has his family – a constant support for the Order’s mission obsequium pauperum for his fellow countrymen.

A highly respected figure in Timor-Leste, on his death Mr. Jape’s family was honoured with a vote of condolence from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. The Head of Government, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak, paid tribute to his role in returning to his homeland in 1999 to take part in “the arduous process of national reconstruction at a time when Dili, our Capital City, was totally destroyed.”

The family of Mr Jape was offered heartfelt condolences from all sides in Timorese life.
